Albuquerque – APD’s Fatal Crash Team have given an update to a double fatal crash that happened last night at Coors and Irving NW. APD officials say that their traffic unit responded to a double fatal motor vehicle crash just before 10:00pm last night.

The early investigation shows a motorcyclist appeared to be racing another motorcycle northbound on Coors Blvd NW approaching Irving NW. Witnesses on scene stated the motorcyclists were approaching a stationary white sedan in the middle lane of northbound Coors Blvd. The two motorcycles “split” the white sedan to get around it. One of the motorcyclists entered the intersection and struck a pedestrian who was crossing Coors Blvd., east to west, in the crosswalk. The motorcycle traveled approximately 450 feet after the collision and struck a curb, the Chevron gas station fuel price sign, and then a tree. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital where they were declared deceased. The driver of the second motorcycle never stopped and fled the scene.

AFR and Albuquerque Ambulance responded to the scene to perform life saving measures on both the pedestrian and the motorcyclist, however the pedestrian was deceased on scene. The motorcyclist was transported to UNMH but did not survive. The pedestrian has not yet been identified.

In a twist of irony the motorcycle involved in the crash was reported stolen out of the state of Alabama.

Speed appears to be an obvious factor in the collision.
