Officers from the Albuquerque Police Department are actively searching for a man who appeared to be armed with a firearm as he was seen knocking on doors in Ventana Ranch late Thursday. Officers are urging the public to be on alert and call police if they see this man or encounter suspicious activity in their neighborhood.
A resident in Ventana Ranch posted surveillance video which can be found here. The man, dressed entirely in black, wears silver headphones, sunglasses, and a backpack with striking images. He approaches a residence and attempts to open the front door, but he is unsuccessful and eventually leaves.
The Northwest Area Command received a report of the individual in the vicinity more than an hour after the video was captured. Despite this, officers were unable to locate the person but have been patrolling the area.
Tips for the public:
- Do not open your door unless you know who it is
- Check for identification if possible through your camera if you have one
- Call police if you feel threatened or unsure of their presence
- If in the evening, turn on bright lights as this can be a deterrent
- Make your presence known while staying inside your residence

UPDATE:
After an officer in the Southwest Area Command made an arrest this afternoon, she had checked the Albuquerque Police Department’s social media and noticed the individual in the video we shared, appeared to be the same male she was actively booking for an unrelated incident.
The officer quickly notified her chain of command and through further investigation it was determined the male she arrested is in fact the same individual seen in the Ring video knocking on doors with a firearm. The backpack he was seen wearing matched, as did the style of firearm.
The individual has been identified as Trenton Apache, 23. Apache was arrested at the Smiths located at 111 Coors Blvd. NW this afternoon. Officers were called to the location as two males were in an altercation with an elderly man. Another person flagged the officers down and said one of the men had a gun. As officers detained Apache, who was with his brother, he stated he did have a gun in his waistband. The gun was run and did not come back stolen, however Apache was intoxicated and does not have a concealed carry permit and therefore was charged with Negligent Use of a Firearm and Unlawful Carrying of a Deadly Weapon.
As officers continue the investigation into the ring doorbell video, charges of Criminal Trespassing are pending.
