Albuquerque –

Just after 9:35 PM, on Saturday February 15, 2025, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department and rescue personnel from Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to the area of Mountain Rd NW and Forrester St NW for a crash with injuries.

When AFR was initially dispatched, they were informed it was a vehicular collision, and the person might still be trapped under the vehicle. AFR’s Squad 2, Rescue 4, Engine 4, and a paramedic supervisor were sent to the scene to provide medical assistance to an individual who had sustained severe and life-threatening injuries.

Upon arrival, responders from AFR discovered a cyclist trapped beneath a coach bus. AFR’s Engine 4 and Heavy Technical Rescue setup for extrication of the individual who was trapped, but the person was pinned under the coach bus. Despite the best efforts by AFR units to free the injured person, unfortunately, the patient died from their injuries at the scene.

When the crash occurred, APD closed Mountain Rd NW between 11th and 7th Streets to conduct a thorough investigation. APD’s Fatal Crash Team conducted an investigation into this fatal crash.

This morning, APD announced that a coach bus was traveling east on Mountain Rd. and as the bus began to pass 11th St., a man on an electric bicycle drove past the stop sign on north 11th St. without stopping and went in front of the bus.

APD went on to say “The bus was unable to stop in time to prevent a collision.  The bicyclist died on scene.  The bus was shown to be traveling the speed limit.  The driver of the bus showed no signs of impairment.  The crash was shown to be a result of the bicycle rider not stopping at the stop sign and traveling immediately in front of the moving bus.”

  1. They’re not bicycles, they’re not motorcycles, they’re a menace to pedestrians and motorist. You don’t need a license, headlight or tail light. They operate on sidewalks, bike paths or on the street. The people riding them make their own rules without regard to traffic laws or common sense. Case in point…

    1. Most people I see on ebikes don’t have the bicycling experience you’d get from putting in the work over months or years to be able to manage those speeds or the motorcycle experience to know how a quick, responsive bike behaves. All the speed, none of the awareness or skill. We really should just treat them like small displacement motorcycles.

  2. Look how they’re just standing there all nonchalant like nothing even happened, when there’s a person on the ground trapped under that bus dead…. Like it doesn’t even phase them. How sick sadistic and unhuman can you be!??? Disgusting!!!
