A now viral clip on TikTok showed the Atrisco Heritage Academy High School 2024 prom being entertained by a drag queen and caused parents to become outraged by the controversial entertainment.
Witnesses who were there told us that at least 3 APS administrators were escorted off the property and put on leave for this drag queen controversy.
The video shows a drag queen doing sexually suggestive dance moves to the crowd with the high schoolers screaming in varying reactions. The video clip had parents questioning how a drag queen was actually even approved for entertainment at the APS sanctioned event.
APS parent Valentin Trujillio said he had a fellow parent call him about the video and then started questioning his son about it.
“He goes, oh, yeah, they hired a drag queen to perform for us. And I was like, seriously? So right after that, I got a, a video of what happened at prom. And, yeah, it was very provocative. I couldn’t believe that they did something,” said Trujillo
APS sent us an email that they had previously sent to parents it says:
Dear Atrisco Heritage Academy Community,
I’m reaching out regarding a performance by a non-APS individual that occurred at last week’s prom. Please know that the district is aware of the performance and has begun an investigation to determine what occurred and how students were impacted.
If you have concerns regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact the Student, Parent, and Employee Service Center at 505-855-9040. Your understanding and continued support are greatly appreciated.

We reached out to APS to try to confirm the witnesses reports of administrators being escorted off the property but they did not return our email for comment.
“I just believe our, our kids shouldn’t be exposed to something like that at an age like that. And it’s their senior prom. My son and his friends and a lot of them left. Once the performance started, they they got up and left and didn’t want to see what was going on,” said Trujillo.
We received numerous tips and messages from concerned parents who preferred to remain anonymous for the story, due to concerns about potential retaliation or retribution against their students who attended this school.
APS holds Board of Education meetings open to the public on the first and third Wednesday of the month at 5 p.m. at the Alice and Bruce King Educational Complex (APS administration building), 6400 Uptown Blvd. NE. The next meeting would be scheduled for May 1st, 2024.
