Baby Almost Dies from Fentanyl Exposure, Mom Charged with Child Abuse

On August 5th, 2025, Albuquerque Fire Rescue were called to the Days Inn by Wyndham located at 1520 Candelaria Rd NE in reference to a baby who appeared to be overdosing from drug use. AFR responded to the scene and was able to help revive the baby but they still transported the baby to UNMH.

The Albuquerque Police Department was called to the scene because 39-year-old Isha Garcia was calling out to people that she needed Narcan for her baby. A witness told officers she keeps Narcan with her because of the drug overdose problems at the hotel. She retrieved Narcan and gave it to a man named “Creeper.” They administered it to the baby prior to AFR arriving on scene.

Garcia told police that the baby “found a pill on the floor” and she did not know what happened. Officers secured a search warrant for the room and found a blue pill on a mattress, a broken glass pipe, and used foil in a trash can.

According to the criminal complaint, Garcia had the baby, who has a twin sibling, and they were in a playpen. Garcia stated she was using Methamphetamine and there were other people in the room were using Fentanyl. Officers also found an untreated circular burn mark on one of the twins that Garcia had no knowledge of how it happened.

The complaint says CYFD put a 72-hour hold on the twins. It is unclear if the twin who overdosed is still at UNMH.

Garcia is charged with Child Abuse without great bodily harm or death. She has a lengthy violent felony record dating back to 2011. Most of the cases were dismissed.
