According to a press release by Bernalillo County Sheriff’s office, on December 7th, 2021, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the Las Mananitas apartment complex at approximately 9:00 pm to speak with a victim of possible physical violence.
During the investigation, deputies determined a battery had occurred. While speaking with the victim, the offender of the suspected battery arrived on scene. The offender quickly fled on foot, and deputies engaged in a foot pursuit with the suspect. When deputies contacted the suspect, a physical altercation occurred, and at least one deputy fired one round, striking the suspect during the encounter. The suspect, an adult male, was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Department, Homicide Detectives and a Multi-Agency Shoot Team were on scene investigating the incident. Per Sheriff’s Office policy, the deputies involved in this incident will be interviewed, and Body Worn camera footage will be thoroughly reviewed before any additional details are available for public release.
