Officers from the Albuquerque Police Department were in the area when the shooting happened but were not involved. APD and National Guard Units are blocking streets in the area to assist with scene security.

The individual who was shot was transported to a nearby hospital as a “scoop and go”, typically indicating the injuries are critical.

All deputies are safe.

This is a developing story. More information will be provided when more is learned.

UPDATE:

Around 7:30 PM, BCSO held a press conference and released additional information on this deputy-involved shooting. They also released supplemental information on social media which said:

On November 12th, 2025, at approximately 4:47 p.m., deputies with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office assigned to a Metro Operation in the Southeast Area conducted a traffic stop involving a vehicle occupied by multiple individuals.

During the stop, the driver was detained without incident. A passenger fled on foot, and deputies pursued. During the foot pursuit, shots were fired. One suspect was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital in critical condition. All deputies are safe. There is no ongoing threat to the community.

This investigation is being handled by the Multi-Agency Task Force, which includes partner law enforcement agencies. At least one of the deputies involved was acting in the capacity of a federal agent as part of Operation Triple Beam, a federally supported initiative targeting violent criminal activity.

Additional details, including identities and the number of deputies who discharged their duty weapons, will be released as the investigation allows.”
