As of 8:00 AM on Sunday, May 26th, deputies from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) have successfully taken Josef Toney into custody. He has been booked at the Metropolitan Detention Center.

BCSO had urgently sought the public’s assistance in locating 19-year-old Josef Toney, who escaped from the Youth Services Center (YSC) at approximately 1:30 PM on May 25, 2024. Toney was being held on multiple serious charges, including two counts of murder, armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, abandonment or abuse of a child, and tampering with evidence.

Sheriff Allen will be holding a press conference at 1:00 PM to address the community and members of the media regarding this incident.
