Albuquerque – The Bernalillo County Youth Services Center (YSC) has been clouded in controversy lately and after last nights escaped murderer incident Sheriff Allen wanted to address it.

After the latest branding of the now YSC from YDC, and previously simply the D- Home it seems name changes, change nothing about the way business is run inside. In the last few months there has been a riot, mass staff resignations, and safety issues not being addressed by the YSC.

BCSO had urgently sought the public’s assistance in locating 19-year-old Josef Toney, who escaped from the Youth Services Center (YSC) at approximately 1:30 PM on May 25, 2024. Toney was being held on multiple serious charges, including two counts of murder, armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, abandonment or abuse of a child, and tampering with evidence.

New Mexico law has been lax in allowing an adult still to be held in juvenile detention center.
