ALBUQUERQUE – APD officers arrested Nathaniel Lucero, 23, of Albuquerque, for drunk driving after he crashed into a police vehicle and injured two Police Service Aides who were at the scene of another crash.
Officers were at the scene of the first crash on I-25 southbound just north of the Lead/Coal exit around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. PSA’s were also at the scene blocking traffic when a Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by Lucero, crashed into the PSA vehicle. The PSA vehicle was launched forward and struck a second police vehicle. One PSA was trapped inside the PSA vehicle. A second PSA was located on the roadway with injuries.
According to the criminal complaint, Lucero admitted to drinking two beers and two shots an hour prior to the crash. The twenty-three-year old also admitted he thought he was driving the wrong way when he slammed into the PSA’s truck.
The PSA’s were transported to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries. They were later released.
Lucero was also transported to the hospital with injuries. Lucero is charged with several crimes including DWI and causing great bodily harm by vehicle.
