Albuquerque –
There is police activity in the 640 block of Louisiana Blvd SE, near the intersection of Louisiana Blvd and Southern Ave. A subject was reportedly committing a burglary, and when officers from the Albuquerque Police Department attempted to apprehend the individual, he fled. APD is now searching for the person. The subject is facing at least three charges related to this incident.
Numerous road closures are in effect in the area.
At 2:23 PM, Van Buren Middle School had been placed in a shelter-in-place order. The school will be releasing students shortly, so parents are purportedly being advised to pick up their children off of Kathryn Ave. Please do not attempt to use Southern Ave for pickup.
UPDATE:
Minutes after 3:55 PM, the Albuquerque Police Department took the burglary suspect into custody.
Traffic lanes are expected to reopen shortly. The Cesar Chavez Community Center and Van Buren Middle School, which were under a shelter-in-place order, have now been permitted to resume operations.
As of 2:23 p.m., Van Buren Middle School is in a shelter-in-place due to police activity in the area.
