Albuquerque –

The City of Albuquerque sent out an email late New Year’s Eve updating its citizens about personnel that are being replaced after key members retired.

The mayors office announced the interim Police Chief is now officially Deputy Chief, Cecily Barker. In the last year, Interim Chief Barker has assumed more public speaking roles to the press during critical incidents. She was also seen attending prominent events representing the police department at the highest capacity. Interim Barker was also made interim Chief on a temporary basis when Medina was out of state on business.

Cecily Barker was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. After attending college out of state, she returned to Albuquerque and joined the Albuquerque Police Department in 2004.

Interim Chief Barker served in the Field Services Bureau from 2004-2012. During that time, she held  collateral duties of Gang Suppression Officer, Crisis Intervention Officer and Field Training Officer. She was promoted to Sergeant in 2012 where she served in the Field Services Bureau and later in the Violent Crimes Division as the FASTT, Missing Person and Cold Case Sergeant.

The City of Albuquerque indicated they will do a nation wide search for a new police chief after Keller is sworn in. We have seen this as standard practice for the City to hire an outside agency for a large of sum of money to pretend to go find good candidates for police chief. In the end, they ALWAYS select within APD ranks and leave the taxpayers with a hefty bill while they pretended to look outside APD nationwide.

Keller is also re-appointing Emily Jaramillo to serve as Chief of Albuquerque Fire and Rescue. Lauren Keefe is being renamed as Interim City Attorney, and Ethan Watson is being renamed as interim City Clerk, per the City charter that requires these nominations before the new year.
