Albuquerque –
Detectives from the Albuquerque Police Department’s Homicide Unit diligently worked throughout the night to identify the individual responsible for the fatal shooting of a teenage boy in the parking lot of a laundromat in Southeast Albuquerque on Saturday. We reported to you about this shooting shortly after it happened.
That man, 39-year-old Oscar Orozco, was spotted this morning around 8:30 AM by officers in the Southeast Area Command. He was detained following a traffic stop. This afternoon, he was charged with murder following an interview conducted with homicide detectives.
This evening, detectives apprehended Jamel Coriz, Orozco’s 39-year-old girlfriend, at a residence located at 542 Alvarado Dr. S.E. Following their investigation, she has been charged with both murder and conspiracy.
According to witnesses, Coriz got into an argument on Saturday evening with two female juveniles and a male juvenile over the use of a washing machine at the laundromat, located at 611 San Mateo Blvd. S.E. The dispute escalated into a physical altercation. Subsequently, Coriz departed the laundromat in a tan GMC SUV. The two female juveniles were picked up and left the laundromat. The male juvenile stayed and went back inside the laundromat.
Coriz returned to the laundromat and parked her SUV in the parking lot. Her boyfriend, Orozco, parked further south in the parking lot. Orozco exited his vehicle at 7:56 PM and ran into the laundromat. Coriz pointed out the male juvenile who was inside the laundromat and within a minute, Orozco chased him out of the business and into the parking lot.
Surveillance video showed Orozco chase the juvenile through the parking lot, and as the juvenile circled around a white pickup, a gunshot is heard. According to the criminal complaint, the OMI contacted APD detectives to inform them that the 15-year-old victim was shot in the back. The juvenile male staggered and walks around the back of the pickup truck. Orozco approached the juvenile male and struck him in the head with his hand.
During the foot chase and even after the shooting, Coriz is heard saying, “Fuck you, fuck you, why did you fucking make me do this?” Coriz screamed after the male victim was shot “you wanna fucking start shit, is that so funny?”
Orozco walked toward his vehicle yelling, “lets go, lets go.” The last thing Coriz was heard yelling toward the victim was, “next time don’t fucking fight a woman.”
Orozco and Coriz are both charged with murder and tampering with evidence. At the time of this posting, there is no booking mugshot for Coriz.
Orozco does have three previous charges for battery on or against a household member, the most recent was October 17, 2024, which is still pending. There are some older criminal charges from 2013 and earlier, including driving on a revoked license, driving without a license, and driving without insurance.

So Orozco shoots and kills an unarmed 15 year old in the back based on hearsay from his girlfriend…this is the type of crime the Death Penalty was intended for. Hoping for a little jail house justice is waiting for him. And this girlfriend deserves a special place in hell.
You hit the nail on the head. Bring back the Death Penalty NM!
Never get into a fight with strangers. You never know what they may be capable of doing. This case is a perfect example of why. You may lose face in the short term, but not your life. These days, everyone is on edge and loaded for bear.
I agree. someone cuts me off on the road and I let it go. You’re safer now in Damascus than here.
He ran and this so called “man” chased him and shot him in the back.
Can we also get charges filed on this guy’s barber?
Absolutely disgusting. Timmie’s Albuquerque and Michelle Lujan Grisham’s New Mexico are the murder capitals of the southwest. They must be very proud of this.
I doubt that the governor or her administration are proud of this abomination of human behavior. She tried to pass laws and executive orders to reduce the occurrence off this kind of thing. She was chastised for it. She tried to get the legislature to pass public safety laws, and they did NOTHING. The blame for this is solely on the trash who did the attack and shooting.
Actually Mathew, you are correct! Gov Lujan Grisham only imposed her view by grandstanding with her kneejerk reaction restricting firearms in Bernalillo county which would only punish law abiding citizens and this did absolutely NOTHING to deter violent crime. Criminals could not care less about following laws. Even Sherrif Allen would not support her in her rediculous grandstanding. It is obvious that she and Timmy have no idea what they are doing and as a taxpaying citizen, I completely blame them. Of course, we also have to look at the judicial system which does nothing to make criminals accountable for their selfish actions who are emboldened to commit more crimes against Bernalillo citizens. Makes me sick.
These two should get just what they did to this young man. 2 bullets problem solved
I feel bad for the family now for the holidays. I hope that those so called adults don’t have children because they need to stay in jail. That boy didn’t make them so nothing they made that choice. Some ppl have lost their mind.
He does because child support has come after him in two separate cases. The holidays and this victim’s birthday at the end of December will NEVER be the same. He has a great family who loved him dearly and are devastated. I loved him. Justice for Mikey. Things have to change
This reminds me of one my tenants, a 75-year old man, who got into an quarrel with a young women in the parking lot of our apartment complex. He verbally confronted her for throwing trash bags in our dumpster. The woman lived across the street but preferred to use our dumpster which was much closer to her apartment’s dumpster. The old tenant could see the dumpster from his living room, so he would run out his apartment yelling at strangers who used our dumpster. It was his purpose in retired life to defend the dumpster.
The woman told her boyfriend about the old guy scolding her. The boyfriend and a another young man (his backup) “visits” my old tenant and proceeds to beat the crap out of him in the parking lot. Another tenant, an old woman sees the beating and begs for the life of the old man. The young man leaves. My old tenant had a badly bruised face.
I tell my tenants not to confront the people from across the street over using our dumpster because the situation can get nasty. This is town is full of mean and crazy people ready to assault or even kill over nothing. That happened 20 years ago. The amount of mean and crazy has just gone up.
This is sad that the City of Albuquerque has become worse than a lot of Cities in foreign countries. SOMETHING needs to be done about this. Not a slap on the wrist for these two. He was a great kid and justice for Mikey needs to happen but Mayor, Govenor and other powers that be need to call in the National Guard and clean Albuquerque up. I grew up there and left 20 years ago because of the increase in violence and it is only getting worse. Police are discouraged because there are two many slaps on the wrists. What many citizens do not know if the District Attorney’s office makes deals with these individuals to plea and the Cour5ts accept those deals. This as well as all of the other senseless crimes makes me sick. Stand up politians!!!!!!!
