Couple Joyrides High End SUV, Man Arrested on Felony Stolen Car Charges

Albuquerque –

On March 8th, 2025, in the late afternoon, the Albuquerque Police Department observed a stolen Mercedes GLE near Trumbull and San Mateo Blvd SE. Officers from the Southeast area command tried to pull the car over. According to a criminal complaint, the driver was identified as 35-year-old Kyle Zirnheld of Albuquerque.

The criminal complaint says, the high-end SUV took off from officers with two people inside. APD deployed a GPS tracker on the vehicle, and they were able to monitor the vehicle. The male driver ended up ditching the vehicle at the intersection of Candelaria and Lexington Ave., which is in the APD Foothills area command. The driver and a female passenger fled the scene with various items in hand.

APD was searching the area when witnesses gave a location of the possible offenders. The two lovebirds were located near a dumpster. It appeared they were trying to look homeless in hopes the officers would not notice them. The pair were taken into custody without incident.

The woman was questioned about her male companion and the stolen vehicle and she gave the most common answer “got the vehicle from an unknown friend.” Zirnheld did not respond to any questions about the incident. He was searched, and officers found keys to the car and drugs. The woman was released and sent on her way.

Zirnheld was booked on receiving a stolen car, aggravated fleeing law enforcement, drug charges, and reckless driving. He also had a laundry list of outstanding warrants of similar charges.

All persons mentioned are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
