Aggressive Attack Holds Back Duplex Fire in NW ABQ
On March 9, 2025, at around 3:11 AM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at 921 Kent Avenue NW, a single-story duplex-style multifamily home. APD officers in the area located the fire and requested an AFR response.
Engine 1 arrived on scene with smoke and flames showing from one occupancy of the duplex. Fire crews initiated an aggressive interior attack using an inch and three-quarter hand line, bringing the fire under control within 10 minutes.
The affected unit sustained heavy fire damage, but firefighters successfully contained the fire to the single occupancy, preventing extension to adjacent structures. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
AFR Fire Investigators remained on scene to determine the cause of the fire, which is still under investigation.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue collaborated with the property owners to ensure displaced occupants had temporary housing for the night.
Fire Damages Mixed-Use Building on Zuni Rd, Residents Displaced
Early Sunday morning on March 9, 2025, at around 3:46 AM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a commercial structure fire at 7515 Zuni Rd SE. The first arriving AFR unit reported a working fire in a mixed-use building containing a mechanic shop and an attached residence.
Fire crews initiated an aggressive attack and worked for an extended period to bring the fire under control. The residential side of the structure sustained heavy fire damage, while the mechanic shop appears salvageable.
The fire displaced the residents from their home. Authorities reported no civilian or firefighter injuries.
AFR Fire Investigators responded to the scene, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
