Albuquerque –
Around 8:40 PM, an Albuquerque Police Officer was flagged down about a vehicle vs pedestrian crash. The officer was told that the crash happened near Zuni Rd SE and Indiana St SE. Around that time, another person called 911 to also report the collision.
The pedestrian was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital by Albuquerque Fire Rescue. At the time of transport by AFR’s Rescue 11, the pedestrian was reportedly conscious and breathing but allegedly had broken bones.
The car that struck the pedestrian fled east on Zuni.
APD and Police Service Aides are blocking off traffic on east and westbound Zuni at Indiana.
If we learn more, we will update you.
UPDATE:
The condition of the person hit has changed, and this is being made a full APD’s Motor Unit call out. Typically, when either APD’s Motor Unit or the Fatal Crash Team is called out, those injured have serious to life-threatening injuries.
As APD’s Motor Unit continues to investigate the crash, drivers may encounter additional lane closures.
We will provide updates if additional information becomes available.
The driver was probably Drunk, had an active Warrant, an Illegal Alien or all of the above. Explains why they fled the scene. Zuni between Wyoming and Louisiana is a target rich environment for hitting a pedestrian, (homeless person), especially after dark. This is why normal law abiding people avoid this entire area of Albuquerque.
