Albuquerque –
Just after 2:50 PM on March 8, 2025, officers from both the Albuquerque Police Department and New Mexico State Police, along with Albuquerque Fire Rescue, responded to a motor vehicle crash on I-40 westbound (WB) near 2nd Street. Initially, AFR’s Rescue 4, Engine 4, and Squad 2 were at the scene to assist with injuries, but they have reportedly cleared the area. One of the vehicles involved is a box truck.
As of this publication at 3:40 PM, traffic is backed up to I-40 WB at University. It is believed that lanes 1, 2, and 5 are currently closed, but this is subject to change as APD and NMSP work to move cars out of the lanes of traffic.
Traffic is moving, but it is slowed. Drivers traveling on I-40 westbound may want to consider an alternative route or plan for additional time.
UPDATE 1:
As of 4:15 PM, an update on NM DOT states the “Left 3 lanes and left shoulder and right shoulder closed.”

An update on NM DOT says “Crash on I 40 westbound at the big I has 2 left lanes closed. Expect major delays and use caution.” The alert also mentions that that the right and left should are closed.

This crash has been cleared.
