On Saturday, July 22, 2023, just after 11pm, the Albuquerque Police Department responded to the area of Central Ave SE and Louisiana Blvd SE, in response to a shooting. When APD arrived on scene, they located a female victim, later identified by police as Brittany Geter, dead on the corner of the street with a gunshot wound. Geter’s passing has left her family, friends, and those that knew her in mourning.

Those who knew Geter took to Facebook to express their grief and share heartfelt tributes. Many friends on Facebook described Geter as someone who deeply loved and cared for her family and friends. Geter’s passion for rap and dance was widely acknowledged, and her talents brought joy to many who knew her. Most notably, her friends fondly remembered her radiant smile that had the power to light up any room. One person posted on Facebook that “she lit up the room when she walked in,” they went on to say “she had crazy talent, could out dance anybody and out rap them with a drop of a hat.”

A friend that spoke directly to ABQ RAW said Geter “had recently moved to Albuquerque to better her life and was on a good path.” They went on to say that Geter had a huge heart and was “loved by everybody!” They also relayed to us that “her death has really effected everybody here in her home town of Farmington, New Mexico.” The friend said Geter “loved to sing and had a scholarship for dancing.” Geter also had a big sister named Cherelle and according to the friend, the two were very close.

In the aftermath of Geter’s death, her family and friends seek answers.

The shooting death of Brittany Geter on 07/22, marked the 87th homicide in Albuquerque for the year 2023.
