On Thursday, January 16, 2025, at around 11:30 PM, a person was shot and killed near 8307 Central Ave NE, which is on the corner of Central Ave and Utah St.
A witness that contacted us and reported seeing the entire ordeal. They stated “two people were arguing outside the parking lot of a smoke shop.” The person went on to say that “one of the guys pulled out a gun and shot him from about a foot away, almost point blank.” They also stated that the person who was shot “stumbled after getting shot” and fell “next to the driver side passenger seat of a 4 door white sedan.”
Overnight, APD homicide detectives, the Office of the Medical Investigator, and APD’s crime scene specialists were on scene investigating this death.
APD has identified the victim as Keyshawn Ball, 23.
Other Notable Incidents at or Near This Smoke Shop
On January 5th, 2025, APD arrested an employee of this smoke shop after he allegedly shot a man in an alley on January 4th, and in a separate incident tried to steal a man’s car at gunpoint on January 5th.
In July 2024, a homicide also occurred at this location. On July 11th, APD announced that “APD detectives arrested the suspected shooter who is charged for the June 9, 2024, murder of Samuel Chavez-Aquiar outside a smoke shop on Central Ave. Salvador Gutierrez, 35, is accused of fatally shooting Chavez-Aquiar on June 9 near the Rags 2 Riches smoke shop located at 8307 Central Ave., N.E. Detectives previously arrested Deluvino Salazar for his role in the murder.” Present day, it appears that this smoke shop goes by M&L Smoke Shop, so it is unknown if the ownership changed hands.
