Edgar Cut Violent Felon Blows Through State Police DWI Checkpoint, Nearly Hits Officers

On August 31st, 2025, the New Mexico State Police conducted a DWI checkpoint near Unser and Western Trail in Northwest Albuquerque. According to a criminal complaint, Oliver Peralta Jr. of Albuquerque drove on the right shoulder at a high rate of speed—approximately 85 miles per hour—and nearly struck several New Mexico State Police officers.

A State Police officer deployed a stop stick tire deflation device on the vehicle, but Peralta continued fleeing the DWI checkpoint. Officers pursued the car and executed a PIT maneuver to end the chase.

The Edgar cut, Peralta exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. The complaint states he admitted to using cocaine prior to racing through the DWI checkpoint.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found a loaded gun with an extended magazine.

In 2024, Peralta was implicated in a sophisticated auto theft ring investigated by BCSO and Albuquerque Police. He was charged and placed on pre-trial detention with an ankle monitor.

In August 2025, a warrant was issued for an armed carjacking that occurred in June 2025. The complaint also points to another organized auto theft ring involving criminal associates.

He had previously been granted pre-trial release with ankle monitoring and supervision from youth adult court in the 2024 case. He failed to comply with the conditions, and a warrant for his arrest was issued in August 2025.

In the DWI checkpoint case, Peralta is charged with three counts of aggravated assault upon a peace officer, DWI (drugs), no insurance, no driver’s license, unlawful use of a firearm by a minor, possession of a firearm by a felon, reckless driving, failure to maintain a traffic lane, and failure to yield the right of way.

Hopefully, the judge assigned to this current case recognizes Peralta as a true danger to New Mexico and holds him until all of his trials are concluded.
