Around 3PM, the Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Louisiana Blvd near Marquette Ave. NE. A white SUV struck a man while he was standing in traffic.
AFR attempted life saving measures at the scene but the man died. The driver remained on scene and was speaking with police.
Earlier in the day, people were calling on the man because he was walking in traffic and he used an oxygen tank to hit a passing car.
Both directions of Louisiana Blvd are blocked off as the APD Traffic Unit investigates the scene. The closure goes from Marquette to Copper.
NOTE: All media outlets received a media notification about this incident. The civilian APD public information officer stated that the man was taken to the hospital and passed away. However, the man actually died at the scene and was not taken to a local hospital.
UPDATE 4/11/24:
APD’s civilian PIO Gilbert Gallegos reported that during the investigation, they found that a white Buick SUV was heading north on Louisiana Blvd. Near 424 Louisiana Blvd NE, a male stepped off the curb into the northbound traffic, directly in front of the Buick. Evidence gathered at the scene indicates that the driver couldn’t have stopped in time to prevent the collision. The driver exhibited no signs of impairment, and speed wasn’t a contributing factor.
Thank you, Buick Enclave driver, for cleansing our city of one more deranged homeless sack of skin and shit.
One less vagabond to break into a car!
I love KOB’s reporting, they are spinning it as an accident and is “renewing calls for action” because another poor guy fell off the curb, is there anyway to call dishonest reporters out?
