Detectives from the Albuquerque Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late Monday night near 6900 Central Ave. SE.

Shortly after 10 PM, officers responded to reports of a shooting outside a smoke shop near the intersection of Central Ave. SE and Indiana St SE. When officers arrived, they found an adult male with apparent gunshot wounds lying in the roadway on Central Ave. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

APD’s Public Information Officer Gilbert Gallegos stated that “the male was not been identified.

Homicide detectives responded to take over the investigation. No additional information about a suspect or the circumstances surrounding the shooting was immediately available or provided.

The shooting marks the third homicide call out handled by APD detectives and crime scene investigators in approximately 23 hours.

We will provide an update with more information is released by APD.

APD responded to a homicide near 6900 Central Ave. SE in April 2025. Another person was shot and critically wounded near this same smoke shop in August 2024.
