Woman Found Dead in Roadway After Being Struck by Car

Albuquerque –

At around 9:40PM, the Albuquerque Police Department received a call about a person who appeared to have sustained gunshot wound. The caller informed police that the lady, may have been stuck by a bullet in a drive-by shooting, as she was laying lifeless in the roadway.

As officers where en-route to the 500 block of San Pablo St NE, it was determined that the woman was likely not hit by gunfire, but instead, she was run over by a car. Shortly after APD officers arrived on scene, the woman died from her injuries.

The case is being assigned to APD’s motor unit. The vehicle did not stay at the scene and APD officers are actively looking for the offender vehicle.

This is a developing story. If we learn more about this, we will update you.

UPDATE:

At 5:17 AM, APD’s civilian PIO Gilbert Gallegos released a statement on this fatal hit-and-run. The release stated:

APD’s Fatal Crash Unit is investigating a crash that resulted in the death of a pedestrian late Thursday on Trumbull Ave. and San Pablo St., S.E.

The on-scene investigation determined two pedestrians were walking in the roadway on Trumbull near Grove St. SE around 9:40 p.m. on Thursday  According to witnesses, a dark colored vehicle, possibly a truck or a jeep, was traveling Westbound on Trumbull at a high rate of speed. One of the pedestrians was able to jump out of the way of this vehicle, however, a female pedestrian was struck by the vehicle.

The female pedestrian had significant injuries and Albuquerque Fire Rescue was called to the scene. The female pedestrian was declared deceased on scene. The driver of the dark colored vehicle fled the scene of the crash. This investigation is in its early stages and is ongoing.

ABQ RAW knew the color and general vehicle description that APD was looking for last night, we chose not to release it, as we often do, as to not compromise the integrity of their case.

If you are a homeowner or business owner on Trumbull west of San Pablo and have security cameras, please consider reviewing your camera footage around 9:40 PM.
