On Friday morning, the Albuquerque Fire Department sent a detailed release about a single-vehicle crash. On September 6, 2024, at approximately 4:12 AM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a significant motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Juan Tabo and Montgomery. The crash included one vehicle and multiple patients. AFR Engine 16 (E16) arrived on scene and found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames with a deceased person inside.
A second patient was found to have been ejected. According to AFR they were “assisted away by bystanders with critical injuries.” Five AFR units responded to the scene to establish treatment, triage, and transport operations.
Due to the severity and amount of damage sustained in the accident, AFR Rescue 16 (R16) transported the surviving patient immediately to a local hospital. Officials extensively searched the area for any additional victims but found none.
It is unknown what caused the accident; APD will remain on scene to conduct their investigation.

APD officers responded shortly after 4 am to reports of a vehicle that crashed into a pole in the area of Juan Tablo Blvd. and Montgomery Blvd., N.E. The vehicle caught fire. One person was determined to be deceased inside the vehicle. A second victim was transported to a local hospital.
APD’s Fatal Team has been called out to start an investigation.
