Albuquerque –
On July 23rd, 2025, the Bernalillo County Sheriff office and MDC officials investigated the death of Metropolitan Detention Center inmate Thomas John Acee II.
Acee was a co-defendant in the murder of 13-year-old Michael Tubbs back in August of 2024. Acee and Michael Flores were accused of shooting up a vehicle occupied by teenagers near Downtown Albuquerque. The murdering pair tried to destroy and sell evidence to avoid an arrest.
Acee is no stranger to felony activity in the metro. In 2021, he and a group of teens vandalized the Downtown Bernalillo County Headquarters by shooting it up. Acee was accused of shooting up the Alvarado Square building and causing massive damage to it and also another shooting at an apartment complex. A trial was held and he was not convicted on those charges.
In 2024, Acee was charged with a DWI, leaving the scene of an accident, and negligent use of a deadly weapon. Those charges were dismissed because the State failed to provide discovery.
Thomas Acee is the son of FBI Special Agent Bryan Acee. The senior Acee has been the case agent for some of the most high profile federally prosecuted cases in New Mexico.
This death will be investigated by BCSO and the Office of Medical Examiner will release a full report at a later date for a cause of death.
