Albuquerque –
Just after 5:45 PM on January 28th, 2025, reports of shots being fired at 4515 Shepard Rd NE, which is the Encanto Lofts Apartments. A caller reported that one person was shot in the parking lot. A second individual came forward with a similar account.
When officers from the Albuquerque Police Department arrived, they located a blood trail at the complex that went to a first level apartment. Due to the possible gunshot victim inside, APD decided to force entry into the apartment where the blood trail ended. While we were on scene APD used a battering ram to enter the apartment unit.
Police searched the complex for a victim and dispatchers called a local area hospital for victims. But no victims were found at local hospitals or outside of the complex.
At approximately 6:30 PM, the police contacted the apartment complex management and the homeowners of the unit where the blood trail led. After gaining authorization from the homeowner’s, police breached the apartment at around 7:0PM. Officers left the apartment unit because they thought someone was barricaded inside an interior room with the door closed.
This caused the APD SWAT team to come out to gain entry into the apartment and search further for someone inside.
Around 9:30 PM, police sent a drone into the apartment. Following this, officers broke down the perimeter at 9:50 PM.
An APD Spokesperson said in an email:
“My understanding is officers did not locate a victim.“
