On Sunday morning, March 2nd, Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB) 377th Security Forces Group (SFG) responded to a call for help from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) to assist them in locating a missing elderly woman. The woman’s last known whereabouts were somewhere around the Manzano Mountains. The 377th SFG deployed their newly assembled Mountain and Desert Defense Team (MADD-T), within moments of receiving the call to help. This joint effort consisted of BCSO, Albuquerque Police Department (APD), New Mexico Department of Public Safety (NM DPS), and the 377 SFG. All of the agencies worked tirelessly throughout the day and night to locate the missing person. However, the KAFB attachment could not continue the search due to jurisdiction limitations.
Kirtland Air Force Base deployed MADD-T, a task force equipped with Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) capabilities and All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). As MADD-T continues to expand, it promises to be a critical asset in maintaining the security of KAFB, while simultaneously serving as a valuable resource to local law enforcement agencies when needed. This incident highlights the strong partnership between KAFB and the surrounding community, demonstrating the dedication of its personnel to utilizing their unique skills to make a difference in critical situations.
This incident underscores the KAFB’s team’s versatility and readiness to contribute beyond base security. “I got an amazing sense of pride when I called on these defenders over the weekend, and they dropped everything to make this mission happen very quickly,” said Col. Matthew Foisy, 377 SFG commander.
We contacted the primary agency involved, which is BCSO. They told us that the woman in question has not been located since the Silver Alert Bulletin is still active.
