The complaint goes on to say, a crime scene specialist reported finding a silver-colored revolver on a table in the living area. In the kitchen, a deceased male was found lying on the floor with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. A homicide callout was initiated.

Around 2:49 PM, responding officers made contact with the calling party, who identified Hargreaves seated inside the gray Buick. Hargreaves was found in the rear driver’s side seat. Officers located brass knuckles in his pocket.

We were on scene when he was taken into custody and put in the back of a patrol car.

Officers entered the residence to perform a safety sweep. The deceased male was found lying face-up on the kitchen floor, covered with a blanket. The criminal complaint states that there were no signs of breathing, a pool of blood beneath his head, and a significant wound to the back of his head. He was declared deceased at the scene. Officers observed a long-barreled silver revolver on the kitchen counter. The residence was secured.

The calling party told officers that Hargreaves had contacted her earlier, asking to speak with her daughter. She said the request felt strange and that she told him she wasn’t with her daughter. He disconnected the call. He called again at 12:45 PM but disconnected once more. When Hargreaves called again at 12:57 PM, he repeatedly said, “he fucked up.” The calling party asked, “Did you kill the (victim)?” and Hargreaves replied, “Yes.” She told him to put the gun down and walk away from it.

Upon arriving at the home, the calling party saw the victim lying motionless on the kitchen floor and proceeded to a bedroom where she found Hargreaves. She instructed him to wait in the vehicle with the air conditioning. Once he was in the car, she called 911. She told officers the victim had been verbally and physically abusive to the family. She also confirmed the silver revolver belonged to the victim.

There were no signs of a physical struggle inside the residence.

At approximately 4:57 PM, the calling party was interviewed in a Mobile Crime Van. She stated she had been at her aunt’s house in the 1400 block of Hendola Dr NE when her aunt began receiving troubling messages and calls from Hargreaves, who she said “did not seem right.” At around 12:33 PM, Hargreaves called the calling party and asked to speak to her five-year-old daughter. She told him her daughter was inside the house and not with her. He disconnected.

She said there were about three more calls. At 12:45 PM, Hargreaves’s voice was shaky and scared. He told her, Please tell me you don’t know anything that’s going on,” and repeatedly said, “I fucked up!” The calling party asked, “Did you kill the victim?” and Hargreaves answered, “Yes.” He continued asking, “What do I do?”

She instructed him to go into another room and told him she was on her way. She didn’t know the exact address of the house and called her mother to retrieve it from a text Hargreaves had sent the day before. Hargreaves kept disconnecting the calls, but during their conversations, she told him to stay calm.

The calling party stated that the victim had a long history of verbal and physical abuse toward her, Hargreaves, and their mother. She said she initially thought she was speaking with the victim on the phone and it took her a moment to realize it was Hargreaves. She also reported that the victim had given Hargreaves a black eye approximately one month prior and that she believed Hargreaves shot him in self-defense.

She further described Hargreaves as depressed, suicidal, and possibly schizophrenic, though said neither he nor the victim had formal mental health diagnoses. She asked police that Hargreaves be evaluated for mental health concerns.

Upon entering the home with the calling party’s boyfriend, she saw the victim’s body partially covered with a blanket and observed a silver Taurus revolver with a handmade wooden handle on the kitchen counter, which she recognized as belonging to the deceased. She stated she only touched the front door and possibly a wall in the bedroom.

She found Hargreaves in the southwest bedroom. He told her that the victim was becoming mean and aggressive, and that he had “snapped.” When asked where he shot the victim, Hargreaves tapped the right side of his head. She asked if he had any blood on his hands, and he replied no. She then walked him to the Buick and called 911.

Hargreaves was transported to the APD Main Police Station at 400 Roma Ave NW, pending execution of a search warrant for DNA.

At approximately 7:09 PM, Hargreaves was interviewed at the station after being read his Miranda rights, which he acknowledged and waived.

He stated that he and the deceased had been kicked out of their previous residence in the 1400 block of Hendola Dr NE about three days earlier after the calling party, her boyfriend, and her children moved in. The victim had been removed earlier and was staying in his vehicle.

Hargreaves said they had started a side job at 5406 Edwards Dr NE a few days prior to clean and repair the property. He and the deceased slept there for at least one night, and Hargreaves had been sleeping on an air mattress.

The criminal complaint states that Hargreaves told police that on the morning of the shooting, around 8:00 to 9:00 AM, he and the deceased used methamphetamine. Hargreaves said he was working on a speaker when the victim began acting aggressive and manipulative. He described the deceased as provoking him emotionally, keeping him “up there.”

Hargreaves stated that he couldn’t clearly remember what the argument was about but said it happened in the kitchen. He reported that there was a counter between them when he shot the victim using the deceased’s gun, which he had earlier taken from the counter and placed in his pocket.

After the shooting, Hargreaves said he asked the deceased a question. When asked what it was, he responded that he remembered but that it was “hard to say… think about it.” He smirked, covered his face, and did not disclose the question, saying it was difficult to say aloud. He described his emotions as “emotions of everything… Realizing I did, the anger, the, I think everything.”

Hargreaves then requested an attorney, and detectives ended the interview. He was charged with first degree murder. He was booked into MDC at 4:55 AM on September 19th.

UPDATE:

After publication, APD stated that the identity of the man killed by his son could be released. He has been identified as 44-year-old Keith Hargreaves.
