Albuquerque –
Around 1:10 PM, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department and crews from Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a vehicle-versus-bicycle crash at Candelaria Rd NE and Juan Tabo Blvd NE. The caller reported that the bicyclist was bleeding from the mouth and appeared to be in grave condition.
When officers from APD’s Foothills Area Command and AFR’s Rescue 9 arrived, the cyclist was immediately transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital by AFR as a “scoop and run” with life-threatening injuries.
APD officers, Police Service Aides, and New Mexico National Guard units are currently closing the intersection of Candelaria Rd NE and Juan Tabo Blvd NE.
Given the severity of the cyclist’s injuries, it is likely that APD’s Motor Unit or Fatal Crash Team will be called out to investigate. Drivers should avoid the area.
We will provide an update as more details about the crash are released or as we learn more about the bicyclist’s condition.
UPDATE @ 2:10 PM:
Around 2:10 PM, APD’s Motor Unit was called out to investigate this crash and the road closure on westbound Juan Tabo was expanded to Maxine St. NE.
