According to New Mexico State Police, the Expedition failed to stop and continued driving at a high rate of speed, fleeing from the officer.

The officer disengaged their emergency equipment as there was air support available, and as the Ford approached the Lomas exit, it rolled over.

The driver, identified as Monty Maes (23) was ejected from the vehicle and transported to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Seatbelts appear not to be properly utilized and at this time, it is unknown if alcohol was a determining factor in the crash. This crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
