Albuquerque –
On April 23rd, 2024, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department responded to a shoplifting incident at a Murhpy’s Express Gas Station located at 2730 West Plaza Dr. SW. This is where 25-year-old Vicente Carrillo of Albuquerque attempted to make 2 illegal beer runs. He was successful in the first attempt after he stole a 12 pack of Twisted Tea.
The liquid courage set in and he decided to go back to the location to steal more beer. According to the criminal complaint, Carrillo parked next to BCSO deputies who were sitting in their patrol cars at the gas station. Carrillo went to the beer section and selected his next round of beers. Employees stopped him from stealing his second round of drinks. He told employees, “you got me this time.”
The complaint goes on to say, Carrillo had his vehicle running when deputies detained him. They started to question how he got to the gas station and he refused to explain how he got there. The deputy smelled odor on Carrillo’s person.
Carrillo refused tests and was booked on aggravated DWI and shoplifting of the 12 Twisted Teas.
It’s quite surprising how audacious some individuals can be, attempting to steal not just once, but twice from the same location! While it’s a relief that the employees and deputies were on hand to prevent further theft, it’s troubling to see someone making such reckless decisions. Hopefully, this incident leads to some necessary reflection and change for the individual involved.
