A few minutes after 7:45 PM, on Tuesday, October 1, shots were fired near 4501 Indian School Rd NE, which is east of Washington Street. The shooting happened outside of the CYFD building. The caller told 911 that someone allegedly shot his friend and fled on foot. Reportedly, five shots were fired.
New Mexico State Police were the first to arrive on the scene, finding a person who had been shot. The Albuquerque Police Department arrived shortly after. Based on preliminary information, it is believed that a person was trespassing on CYFD property, the trespasser supposedly pepper-sprayed the security guard, and the guard then fired their gun at the trespasser.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue is purportedly transporting the person shot to a local hospital. Rescue 13 is doing the transport. The individual is believed to have sustained 4-5 gunshot wounds. The person’s condition is presently not known.
The New Mexico State Police are handling the investigation. The NMSP are responsible for handling all calls for service at the CYFD building, as it is a state government office.
We have a reporter at the scene trying to get more information.

UPDATE 2:
On October 2, the NMSP posted on Facebook the following:
New Mexico State Police investigate shooting at
CYFD building
Albuquerque, NM -On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was called to investigate a shooting at 4501 Indian School Road NE in Albuquerque, NM.
State Police Investigations Bureau agents learned, that on October 1, at around 7:30 p.m., a security guard working for Securitas Security Services assigned to the CYFD building, observed a male identified as Casey McCray (36) sleeping on the property. The security guard advised McCray that he was trespassing and had to leave the property.
McCray grabbed a cannister of bear spray from his backpack and sprayed the security guard. The security guard then fired at least one round from his duty firearm, striking McCray.
When NMSP officers arrived on scene, they began life saving measures on McCray until EMS personnel arrived and transported McCray to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries. He is currently in stable condition. The security guard was interviewed and later released.
This case is under investigation by the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau.
Never bring pepper spray to a gunfight. Better yet, just stay away from gunfights .
