Albuquerque –

Around 3:05 PM on May 9, Albuquerque Fire Rescue was dispatched to 1527 Stoneway Dr NW for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, Engine 17 confirmed a working fire in a two-story residential structure.

When AFR arrived on scene, crews initially believed the fire had potentially started in a roof AC unit. However, they later determined the fire originated from a mattress on the second floor. Arriving crews saw smoke coming from the front door, quickly deployed attack lines, and began a primary search. They located the fire in a back upstairs bedroom, where it primarily involved a mattress and other nearby contents. Crews brought the fire under control within approximately ten minutes.

No civilians, firefighters, or pets were injured.

The home sustained moderate smoke and water damage. Due to the extent of the damage, the home was deemed uninhabitable, and the occupants were displaced. The Red Cross responded to assist the displaced occupants.

Investigators determined the cause to be accidental, involving overloaded electrical outlets.
