Nathen Garley, Daniel Gomez, Jose Romero all of Albuquerque.
Albuquerque –
A third suspect has now been charged in the brutal murder of Froylan Villegas, who was killed and also critically wounding his aunt outside of Isotopes Stadium.
Detectives have now arrested Daniel Gomez, 26, who had been named in a warrant for the homicide. Detectives arrested Jose Romero, 22, and Nathan Garley, 21, late Thursday. All three suspects are charged with multiple crimes related to the Sept. 6, 2023, shooting death of Villegas.
The shooting occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on Sept. 6, 2023, in the area of Avenida Cesar Chavez, just west of University Blvd. The shooting happened after the Villegas family members left a baseball game at Isotopes Stadium.
Froylan Villegas, who was in the front passenger seat of the truck, and Tatiana Villegas, who was driving the truck were each struck several times by gunshots reportedly fired by the evil edgar trio. Froylan Villegas died as a result of his wounds on scene and Tatiana Villegas, 23, was critically injured.
According to the recently unsealed criminal complaint, the trio of edgar thugs got into an altercation with another thug at the Isotopes game on Sept. 6th. The edgars exchanged social media direct messages to the intended victim and they wanted to settle a score. ABQ RAW does not have a gang slang expert on staff, but they apparently threatened each other in a manner which escalated from the text exchange to instead just shooting at each other. After the game the trio happened to see the rival gang member’s vehicle and by tragic tragedy it was almost identical to the Villegas family vehicle.
The evil edgars concocted a horrible plan of shooting at the victims truck in a driveby manner from the comfort of their souped up Dodge Durango SUV and opened fire on the wrong truck.
The complaint says, Froylan’s mom heard a “Boom.” She then looked out the passenger side window and observed the rear end of a black SUV with a male standing outside the sunroof. The male had a sizeable rifle-type firearm he was holding with both hands. She then noticed her son, Froylan, leaning forward. She noticed her eleven-year-old son was covered in blood. Froylan had been struck in the head, arms and chest and appeared lifeless.
The complaint goes on to say the DEA and HSI helped piece together digital evidence of text messages, and positive identification about the three suspects. The complaint does not mention if the gun from the homicide was ever recovered.
The three edgars are each charged with: first degree murder, shooting at or from a vehicle, attempt to commit first degree murder, conspiracy to commit first degree murder, aggravated battery, child abuse, three counts of aggravated assault, criminal damage to property over $1,000.
