Albuquerque –
Officers from the Albuquerque Police Department and New Mexico State Police are responding to a small plane crash on the Los Altos Golf Course.
Numerous witnesses contacted us to report officers are clearing people from the crash scene. The New Mexico State Police will be assuming the responsibility for the investigation with the National Transportation Safety Board.
People on scene who witnessed the incident said it happened near holes 6 and 7, and that two individuals were seen receiving aid from Albuquerque Fire Rescue. While we were at the golf course, we observed AFR crews loading one person into a Rescue unit.
We are en route to this location, and will update you when we learn more.


UPDATE:
Albuquerque Fire release a statement which said:
“On March 6, 2026 around 11:39 am, Albuquerque Fire Rescue was dispatched to the Los Altos Golf Course for a small plane that crash landed. Engine 9 (E9) arrived within five minutes of dispatch and reported a small prop plane with two people stuck inside. The aircraft was not on fire but had significant damage. A total of 12 AFR units were dispatched to the scene to establish treatment, triage and transport operations. Two people were extricated from the plane and transported code 3 to UNMH.”
UPDATE 2:
Today, the New Mexico State Police responded to a small aircraft crash. Preliminary reports indicate that a single-engine Cessna 400 went down at the Los Altos Golf Course while attempting an emergency landing. The aircraft had two occupants, both of whom were transported to a nearby hospital. One occupant has been confirmed deceased, while the other remains in critical condition.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified and is on its way to assist with the investigation.
This incident is currently under investigation.
