Update: 911 and 242-COPS Operational After Fiber Line Replaced

Albuquerque –

Around 2:45PM, the Albuquerque Police Department informed the media that both 242-COPS and 911 services are temporarily out of service. According to APD a construction crew accidentally cut a fiber optic line. Currently, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office redirects emergency calls to the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) to handle the emergencies.

APD wants the public to be aware that while 242-COPS is fully down, you can still use the APD app to report non-emergency incidents.

When we find out when the line is restored, we’ll update you.

UPDATE:

Just after 8:30PM, APD informed us that approximately 400 feet of fiber optic line needs to be replaced. Crews are estimating the repairs will be complete between 12:00-2:00a.m.

APD staff is at the BCSO Emergency Communications Center assisting with calls for service.

UPDATE 2:

Just after 3:00AM, APD’s civilian PIO Gilbert Gallegos sent an email to the media stating:

APD’s emergency communications phone lines, including 911 and 242-COPS, are up and running after crews replaced fiber optic lines that were accidentally severed.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and the assistance of Bernalillo County’s emergency operations professionals.
