Officer Bianca Quintana

Early on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at around 12:45 AM, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a report of a pedestrian fatality near Coors Blvd SW and Chapulin Rd SW. The person who died has been identified as an off-duty Albuquerque Police Department officer.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation but is working closely with the Albuquerque Police Department due to the involvement of one of their officers. Our thoughts are with the officer’s family and the Albuquerque Police Department during this tough time.

The investigation is still in progress, and more details will be shared as they become available.

UPDATE:

BCSO has stated that this is a confirmed a fatal hit-and-run crash, and no suspect is in custody yet. Investigators are working hard to gather more information.

UPDATE 2:

At 7:05 PM, APD announced the identity of the off-duty officer killed early Wednesday morning. The off-duty APD officer has been identified as Officer Bianca Quintana. Officer Quintana joined APD in 2022 and was assigned to the Foothills Area Command.

Chief Harold Medina said, “this is a tragic loss for the Albuquerque Police Department and especially for the family and friends of Officer Bianca Quintana.” He went on to say “the entire APD family extends our most sincere condolences to Officer Quintana’s family.

The circumstances of Officer Quintana’s death are being investigated by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.

Officer Quintana started her career at the Los Lunas Police Department and lateraled to APD and was heralded by her peers as a great officer.
