Albuquerque –
Just before 7 PM, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department and crews from Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a rollover motor vehicle crash on Interstate 25 northbound at Coal. One vehicle struck the jersey barrier at the Coal exit. It is currently believed that this was a single car accident. While en route, AFR was advised there may be occupants trapped inside the vehicle.
At least two people were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
APD, Police Service Aides, and the New Mexico State Police have closed the Coal exit on Interstate 25 northbound, along with the right lane and right shoulder. Drivers should anticipate delays, closures are subject to change.
APD’s Motor Unit has been requested to respond and investigate due to the severity of the occupants’ injuries. However, because the crash occurred on Interstate 25, the NMSP may assume responsibility of the investigation, as state police typically have primary jurisdiction over incidents on state highways and interstates.
