Albuquerque –

As of 9:34 AM, per the Albuquerque Public Schools, Sandia High School is in a shelter-in-place because of a safety concern.

Officers from the Albuquerque Police Department are currently at the school. There is a large police presence, and the school is on lockdown. We’ve gotten many messages from worried people asking about what’s happening.

We have heard that there is a student reportedly on campus with a firearm.

We contacted APS to find out if they can provide more information.

If we learn more about this, we will update you.

At 10:45 AM, APD posted on X:

APD is currently working with APS Police on suspicious activity regarding a student at Sandia High School. There is no immediate threat at this time.

Since we posted this story, we have received reports from parents and guardians of students at Sandia High School that they were informed by the Albuquerque Public Schools of a student on campus purportedly in possession of a firearm.

UPDATE 2:

The lockdown was lifted, and there is no longer a police presence at the school.
