Albuquerque –

At around 7:00 PM, police and emergency personnel were dispatched to Manzano St NE and Phoenix Ave NE for a traffic collision. Albuquerque Fire Rescue’s Engine 13, Ladder 13, and Rescue 13 were reportedly sent to the scene.

When officers from the Albuquerque Police Department and AFR arrived, they found a dirt bike that had purportedly collided with a vehicle. One of the juveniles was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The other juvenile is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

APD’s Fatal Crash Team has been called out to investigate this serious injury crash.

If we learn more about this accident or the victim’s conditions, we will update you.

UPDATE:

There seems to be conflicting information regarding the exact type of vehicle the juveniles were riding. Yesterday, APD’s Deputy Director of Communications & Marketing, Rebecca Atkins, stated that “two juveniles were riding on a dirt bike when they struck a vehicle.” However, when we reviewed audio logs from AFR, AFR dispatch referred to it as a ‘high-mechanism crash’ involving injuries, with a motorcycle colliding with a vehicle.

As of October 1, 2024 at 5:00 PM, ABQRAW does not have any further information on this crash. APD has not provided any additional updates to the media.

  1. Just curious why APD has a “Marketing” with i’s “Communications”? Does APD sell T-shirts? Bumper Stickers or flashing Red/Blue lights? If so, will that Marketing, pay for Chief Medina’s $100,00.00 new ride?
