Albuquerque –
Agents from the New Mexico Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested Julian Gunther, a once-esteemed 26-year-old Albuquerque charter school teacher. A detective posed as a 12-year-old and received a message from Gunther introducing himself.
The complaint says the detective stated, “I’m only 12 I know please don’t judge,” with a female child wearing a pink dress. Gunther quickly escalated the chats to a sexual manner and said he’s looking for a friends with benefits arrangement. Gunther moved the e-mail to text messaging and the sexual chats continued.
The undercover agent gave the fake “teen” height as 4’11” and Gunther responded:
“I have an extra 6 inches if you want “
The texts escalated even more in nature as Gunther asked for sex and described sex acts to the alleged 12-year-old. Gunther used classic grooming techniques with the fake child and was very good at chatting with the undercover detectives.
The detectives sent photos of a girl that was in a bathing suit and never in sexual nature. Gunther started to send sexual photos of him nude and videos of him masturbating. Gunther was very sexual and descriptive with the fake pre-teen.
Gunther wanted a voice conversation and spoke with a female detective posing as the 12-year-old. During the conversation the team heard children playing in the background and it was during a weekday. Gunther said he was at “school” and detectives assumed it was at his job at Rio Grande Academy of Fine Arts.
The complaint goes on to say, Gunther stated that his life was “complicated” because “You are at an age where I can’t do much.”
There was a final text exchange before warrants were issued for his arrest and the fake teen breaks up with Gunther.
Gunther was arrested in Albuquerque by the Albuquerque Police Department with 14 outstanding warrants from Santa Fe Police. APD said there are going to be charge him with other charges. Gunther had a “perp” walk with the media and we asked him a slew of questions. He kept his head down and avoided eye contact while he was being escorted to the Prisoner Transport Center.
If parents or guardians suspect Gunther was grooming their child, they are advised to call local authorities immediately.
He is currently charged with:
