Shooting Happens Near Popular New Mexican Restaurant

Albuquerque –

Shortly after 3:35 PM, a gunshot victim was reported at 5400 Academy Rd NE, the location of Sadie’s on Academy. According to initial reports, an altercation occurred around 3:30 PM between two men at the Texas Roadhouse. One man chased the other man, leading to a shooting near the Sadie’s parking lot. Officers from the Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene.

APD secured the area and detained one individual, who was later seen in the back of a parked police unit.

AFR provided medical assistance to the gunshot victim, who was then transported to a nearby hospital by Rescue 15.

While on scene, we observed that the victim’s bloodied clothing had been removed by AFR and left on the ground as evidence. The intersection to get into the Sadie’s was closed as officers were investigating.

UPDATE:

APD PIO Gilbert Gallegos released an update on this shooting to say “The dispute started at the Texas Roadhouse, located at 5900 Pan American Freeway, as one man chased another man toward the nearby Sadie’s restaurant, located at 5400 Academy Rd. The shooting occurred in the parking lot of Sadie’s.”

Gallegos went on to say the man shot “was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.”

We learned from Sadie’s that the shooting wasn’t actually in their parking lot, but rather in the grassy area nearby. The restaurant is still open for business.

*We initially described the incident as an “altercation occurring between a waiter and an unidentified individual,” based on a witness account indicating that someone dressed in waiter-type attire was being detained. We have since learned that the individual involved in the altercation was a waiter from the Texas Roadhouse, and that at least one employee from Sadie’s rendered medical aid to the person shot.
