Albuquerque –
Shortly before 4:10 PM, officers from Albuquerque Police Department and emergency crews from the Albuquerque Fire Rescue and Bernalillo County Fire Rescue responded to a report of a serious crash at southbound Pan American Freeway NE and Jefferson Street NE. Initial reports indicated multiple patients, including one person receiving CPR.
Upon arrival, AFR confirmed that one individual was undergoing CPR and that at least two vehicles were involved in the collision. The individual who was receiving CPR died.
Other individuals involved in the crash reportedly did not sustain serious injuries.
A secondary crash may have occurred in this area. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
Police are closing Jefferson Street and Pan American Freeway NE as APD’s Fatal Crash Team is being dispatched to investigate the incident further.
APD’s Detective and Public Information Officer Chase Jewell released a statement to motorists saying “Currently, the north and southbound Pan American FW at Jefferson ST NE, and the east/west-bound Jefferson bridge are shut down due to the crash. Motorists are asked to avoid these exits and entrances to and from Interstate 25.”
UPDATE:
It appears at though APD is expanding one road closure. Initially the southbound Pan American FWY was closed near Jefferson, it is not closed at San Mateo.
