APD homicide investigators look for evidence at the scene at 921 San Pedro Dr. SE in front of Giovanni’s Pizzeria.
International War Zone District, Albuquerque –
On August 30th, 2022, at around 9:30PM, APD officers were dispatched to a call about a gunshot victim at 921 San Pedro Dr SE.
When officers arrived, it was discovered there was a robbery of the pizza business at that location. It was learned the robbery offender shot and killed, Rosario Zito, the owner of Giovanni’s Pizzeria. (story continues below)

Witnesses told us they lived behind the 921 San Pedro Dr. SE business complex and heard around 8-10 gun shots and that they heard sirens arriving on scene. Zito’s body was seen on the ground between two vehicles in front of the store. A grey SUV could be seen with shattered glass around it. There did not appear to be any suspect information at this time. (story continues below)

Zito’s restaurant is internationally and especially locally known by food and pizza bloggers. Mr Zito was known for his thick Queen’s New York accent when he greeted customers into his business.
Giovanni’s Pizzeria has been voted numerous times one of the top 100 pizza places in the entire nation. The business has been contributing to Albuquerque, and New Mexico’s tax base by employing many employees over the years and selling its famous Italian food for over 30 years.
This is Albuquerque’s 118th homicide for 2022 and the 5th homicide in the last 3 days.
