Suspect Identified in Embudo Trail Murder, APD Needs Help Locating Killer

APD has released information on the Embudo Trailhead murder investigation, APD detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Paul Arthur Lopez, 28, who is the suspect in Thursday’s shooting death of Marvin Riley at the trailhead of a popular hiking trail.

Witnesses told detectives Riley, 37, was sitting in his car watching the sunset from the parking lot of the Embudo Trailhead, which is located at 13921 Indian School Rd., N.E. A man, later identified as Lopez, approached Riley and an argument ensued between them. Witnesses said Lopez fired a single shot, striking Riley. Riley collapsed right there and later died from his injury.

 

Witnesses identified the green SUV that Lopez was driving as he fled the scene. Detectives tracked the SUV to an apartment complex located at 801 Locust N.E. Field officers located the vehicle within an hour of the shooting. The vehicle was sealed and towed to the crime lab, pending a search warrant.

 

Another witness was able to identify Lopez today from a photo line-up, and homicide detectives obtained an arrest warrant for him.

 

Anyone with additional tips about the shooting or know the whereabouts of Lopez should call 911. He is considered armed and dangerous.
