Albuquerque –
The suspect from May 2nd’s SWAT situation, Jonathan Rhoades, 42, was taken into custody by the Albuquerque Police Department’s SWAT team.
According to a criminal complaint filed Saturday, officers with the Albuquerque Police Department responded to a neighbor dispute around 9:20 AM at the Tres Caminos Apartments on Valencia Drive SE.
Upon officers’ arrival, the caller spoke with police and described prior issues with a neighbor, identified as Jonathan Rhoades. The complaint from today and one from April 2026 states Rhoades had previously threatened both his neighbor and police with a firearm.
While APD officers attempted to contact Rhoades at his apartment unit, they reported hearing yelling and loud noises from inside. After knocking and identifying themselves, they said Rhoades threatened to shoot them through the door. The complaint also states that officers heard what they believed to be a rifle being chambered.
Believing they were in immediate danger, officers withdrew from the doorway and called for additional units.
A records check showed Rhoades had an active arrest warrant stemming from an April 2026 incident involving alleged threats against a neighbor with a firearm. On April 3, 2026, an APD detective documented a neighbor dispute at the same location as today’s incident, the Tres Caminos Apartments, in which Rhoades purportedly threatened to shoot his neighbor. The April 3 complaint describes prior reports indicating escalating behavior and Rhoades’ alleged access to firearms.
APD’s SWAT team was deployed after hours of public announcements by field officers were unsuccessful. Rhoades later exited the apartment.
The arrest warrant issued for Rhoades in connection with today’s incident includes charges of shooting threats from an April warrant and aggravated assault on a peace officer. However, the New Mexico Courts portal currently lists only charges related to today’s incident: resisting, evading or obstructing an officer. He was booked into MDC on May 2nd around 8PM.
