Albuquerque –
On Monday, November 19th, 2024, at approximately 6:15 AM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to 8520 Trumbull Ave SE for reports of a potential structure fire at an abandoned single-family dwelling. Ladder 5 (L5) arrived at the scene and observed smoke and fire emanating from the boarded-up two-story dwelling. Battalion Chief 2, Engines 9, 11, and 12, Ladder 5, Rescue 11 and 12, and Squad 3 responded to the fire and assisted with suppression efforts.
Crews initially assisted one uninjured occupant in exiting the structure and subsequently commenced fire suppression operations. The fire was extinguished within 26 minutes of their arrival.
No reports of civilian or firefighter injuries were received. The residence is currently uninhabitable, and the property owner was not present at the scene.
It is suspected that the abandoned house was occupied by squatters. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by AFR’s Arson Division. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
This is the second abandoned residence to be set ablaze, reportedly by squatters within the past 24 hours.
UPDATE:
Just after 2:50 PM, AFR was called back out to this location. According to AFR’s PIO Lt. Jason Fejer “It was a small rekindle in the subfloor. Station 5 canceled all other responding units and handled it with the crews on scene.” The two units were on scene for approximately 38 minutes.
Speaking of old derelict buildings I heard they are remodeling Tingley Collesiumm…how many times are we going to polish that turd? If they really wanted to revitalize the Central corridor we would bulldoze that entire city block called the The Fairgrounds and build a multi use Soccer Stadium and Amphitheater and move the State Fair to the Balloon Fiesta location. Then supporting businesses like Restaurants and Brewpubs could move in to the surrounding area and that POS ART Bus would actually have somewhere to go. Think big Timmy!!!!! Just sayin.
I like your plan. Would need to get rid of all the crackheads and hookers off central too. Start arresting criminals and keeping them locked up instead of the catch and release system we have now.
Why is it that the homeless, those don’t want to work, squatters, etc. have more rights than those that bust our hump on a daily basis? Don’t get me wrong…I understand and have empathy for those that are down on their luck. However those who ethic will eventually pick themselves back up. But then we have the millions of Americans who do not want to work and live off the system. What incentive do they have to do better when their bad behavior is rewarded?? We throw more money at them, provide affordable housing, etc. while those who work, struggle to make ends meat and don’t get freebies….I say when Trump (And I’m no supporter of Trump or Kamala) does his mass deportations, we send all those Americans who don’t want to be productive with them to Mexico or whever. To be honest, I have NEVER seen an immigrant on the street corners holding a piece of cardboard and asking for a handout…..I’m not sayin……I’m just sayin
I have. And just to give a bit of a history lesson; Adolf Hitler also thought that all of Germany’s “undesirables”, as he called them, belonged in prisons and labor concentration camps. How well did that end up working out for Germany?
LOL!! you certainly went to an extreme….Hitler? I don’t recall saying I wanted anyone in concentration camps or prison…I just want lazy Americans to work and stop using my tax dollars to support them….but yeah….justify this how you want to fit your narrative and enjoy the EBT card my tax dollars pay for….Only in America are the ones who live off the system heavier than those who actually work
