At around 2:50 PM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue was dispatched to a fire on 53rd St SW and Crestview Pl SW. When crews from Engine 7 (E7) arrived, they encountered a working fire in a single-story abandoned structure, with heavy smoke emanating from the building. Battalion Chief 1 (BC1), Battalion Chief 4 (BC4), Engine 1 (E1), Engine 17 (E17), Rescue 7 (R7), Rescue 14 (R14), and Squad 1 (SQ1) are also reportedly on scene.

One person was observed exiting the structure when AFR arrived. It is unknown if they were injured.

AFR crews are still presently fighting this blaze. AFR shut off the gas to this structure, but there was no electrical going to the premises.

If we learn more about this, we will update you.

Update:

On Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at approximately 2:51 PM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue was dispatched to 5202 Central SW for reports of a possible structure fire at a single-story, single family dwelling. Engine 7 arrived on scene and reported a working structure fire coming from an abandoned boarded up structure. The fire was brought under control within 13 minutes of their arrival. Damage to the structure was mostly contained to a room and contents near the front door. No injuries of civilians or firefighters was reported. AFR Fire Investigators are on scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. A cause has not been determined at this time.  No Civilians were displaced. No additional information available at this time.

  1. I might be wrong but I think it is the homeless trying to stay warm and it gets away from them. I hope these fires aren’t
    deliberately set. In my opinion timmy isn’t doing his job as far as the homeless is concerned. Worthless at best. Thank God for the AFD. Thank You guys, and gals.
