Officers with the Albuquerque Police Department have blocked off several streets near the Cooper Terrace Apartments, including Copper Ave NE, Chelwood Park Blvd, and San Jacinto Ave NE, as APD is actively searching for a person who fled and barricaded themselves inside the apartment complex.

The situation began around 10:00 AM, and remains active. A parent told us that earlier today, Apache Elementary was placed under a shelter-in-place order as a precaution. They also told us that school was dismissed early.

Another nearby resident reported that officers on scene have been making public announcements in the area.

Around 3:19 PM, APD’s PIO emailed the media and it says “APD’s SWAT Unit has been activated to search a residence for a man who fled from police.”

Update:

APD states that “The individual was not located inside the residence.
