What we learned is the suspect was driving his truck east bound in the west bound lanes of Gibson Bl SW just east of 98th St SW. When officers noticed the driver they turned around to stop him but he crashed into a concrete barrier. The trucks airbag deployed after the crash into the barrier. The man then got out of the vehicle and ran away from officers. The suspect apparently got tangled in some barbed wire and was apprehended by police.

While officers waited with him outside their patrol cars the suspect had some sort of medical episode and passed out. Bernalillo County Fire Rescue came to the scene to try reviving the man but he died on scene. It is unclear if the trauma from the crash caused life ending injuries or if he had pre existing medical issues.
A violent crimes call out was initiated and APD started it’s investigation on what happened. This was also a multi-agency task force investigation into the incident.
